Out of Place

Well, I had to turn all my bullets in today. That is a very weird feeling. I feel really out of place without any ammo in a combat zone. Either I’m just that crazy or it is time to go home. Maybe it’s a combination of both. I bet it was one of those turkeys; they called the tip line and ratted me out! I knew I should have shot them… ;) haha, until next time

Drawing to a close

Things are thankfully quiet here during the month of Ramadan. I don’t complain too much. I’ve been attacked several times by insurgent dogs and cats and been forced to defend myself and my patrol with lethal force. Maybe I derive too much enjoyment from shooting at the local cats, dogs, and turkeys, but you know what, it helps my aims and confidence when we have to engage larger threats. ;-) Training is going well with the incoming soldiers. Eventually they will have their whole company here and we can begin the transition of them taking over the mission and I’ll start pulling my guys off of the street. That will be a very good day! :-D It will be nice when I stop going out on missions, I’ll turn in half of my IBAS (about 40lbs) and all my ammunition (about 15lbs). That will mean the next time I go outside the wire will be on an airplane headed for Kuwait! WooHoo!!! :-D :-P It is hard to believe that the end is drawing near for me. It is hard for me to envision what I will do next, but I’ll worry about that when I wake up tomorrow just like I have been doing all year. Each day is a gift, enjoy it and make the most of it. See you soon, until next time…

Packing and moving

Well, I’m nearing the end of my packing fiesco! Now, half of my stuff is in my room and half of my stuff is over in the tent. The other day I was running and errand over to the Airport and I stopped in the DFAC there to have lunch. I was blown away because they actually had real plates and silverware! :-D I haven’t used real dishes since I was home on leave in May. I was pretty excited. The funny thing was the spoons were about as big as my little finger! It was pretty weird and awkward to eat with but I managed. ;) More people are arriving and there are new faces everywhere. Part of me is excited to see new people, but at the same time part of me feels crowded and I wish they would go away. It’s pretty crazy, but I’ll get over it. I can’t imagine what it will be like back in the states with even more people and cars and stuff. I’ll deal with that when I get there, right now I have to get through tomorrow. Bayaa con Dios (Go with God) Until next time…
