Beat the Heat

It’s hot in Baghdad now, very hot! ;) I didn’t want to look weak or anything in front of my soldiers so I jumped in with both feet. In “full battle rattle-body armor, kevlar, full combat load, and a few other pieces of equipment,” I hit the streets with my guys (with less than 24hrs on ground) :-D It was really hot at that point, go figure :-P ! I had to figure out how to beat this insane heat.

At some point on Saturday, I started feeling less rockin’. By Sunday, I hadn’t slept much and was more high drag, low speed (pretty much sucking), BUT I couldn’t feel the heat anymore. I decided I should go to sick call on Monday morning and found out I had a fever :-( . I felt really good outside though ;) . Despite an achey body and splitting headache, I loved being outside, it felt really good :) . Luckily, I got some Tylenol from sick call and rolled out Monday night on drugs, haha (just kidding). While a fever does make outside feel nice when it is 115-120 degrees, I really don’t recommend it ;) .

I’m starting to feel better now; just a little bug or something weird, I should be totally “kickin’ chicken” by tomorrow (that’s kind of like rockin’). In the end, God is good all the time. He is my strength and my foundation; and I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me :-D ! Until next time…

Arriving at my Room

I made to back to my room in Baghdad. It was a long trip as I stepped off the plane in Kuwait, it was alright because we landed about about 2100 (0900pm) so it was kind of cool. Also, I didn’t have any body armor on yet ;) . I secured all my gear and was slotted for a flight to Baghdad about 5hrs later. I finally arrived in Baghdad at about 1100hrs this time wearing all my gear. It was about 110degrees outside; as I rode the bus back to my pad, I felt like I was being burned by the wind, but it felt a little bit nice on the rain coming down from my kevlar helmet (aka severe sweat) :( . I finally arrived at my room to drop my bags and gear around 1400.

Approximately 24hrs I ran my first mission since returning from leave, maybe a mistake, but don’t need to be wasting any time :-) . It was 115degrees during the mission, I was like “Holy Cow!” It’s a little weird to feel like you might spontaneously combust at any moment :-P . It kind of hard to breathe, hopefully I’ll get used to it or it will pass quickly ;) . At any rate, I’m back in the saddle rockin’ and rollin’ around Baghdad.

Thank you to all my friends and family back home for all your support! It was so good to see you and chat with you, if only for a moment. God bless you and prosper you, I’ll be home soon enough ;) . Take care and stay cool, until next time…

Back to Work

Well, I’m on my way back to work. I had a layover in Atlanta so that is nice, I can’t complain; though I’m anxious to find out how my guys are doing. I had an excellent two weeks home, despite all the driving ;) . I accomplished everything I set out to and got to see so many people. I am going back to Iraq engaged to the most beautiful young lady, and it makes life that much brighter :-D . I’m going to go get breakfast now. God bless you and prosper you, I’ll catch you on the flip side ;)
